Born in September 7, 1958 in Batumi. 1981 - graduated from the History Faculty of the Lomonosov Moscow State University with honors.   1985 - PhD.

1987-1989 - political science reviewer, assistant secretary at the Komsomol Central Committee, head of the section.

1989-1993 - organizer and director of the USSR Young Enterprise Managers Association (later - USSR Enterprise Managers Association, International Enterprise Managers Association).

Since 1991 - cooperation with Moscow leaders headed by Ju. M. Luzhkov. Counselor of the mayor of Moscow 1997 to 2010 (pro bono).

1993 - founder and head of the Predprinimateli za novuju Rossiju Union. Elected deputy in the 1st State Duma, where he assumed the position of the chairman of the Committee for the CIS and relations with Russian nationals abroad. Chairman of the Black Sea Fleet Commission (1995).

1996 to present - director of the Institute of the CIS Countries (Insitute of Diaspora and Integration) initiated by him.

1998 - co-founder of Fatherland Block. December 1, 2001 after Fatherland Block united with the Unity Party - founder and member of United Russia, member of its Central Political Council.

2003 - elected deputy in the 4th State Duma from Orekhovo-Borisovskiy Electoral District No.197 (Moscow). Member of United Russia parliamentary group and the Committee for the CIS and relations with Russian nationals abroad.

2007 - elected deputy in the 5th State Duma in which he coordinated Deputies Group for relations with Ukrainian Parliament. January 16, 2008 to April 5, 2011 - first deputy chairman of the Committee for the CIS and relations with Russian nationals abroad.

Since 2002 - author and host at TV-Tsentr Channel: "Materik", "Politicheskaya Kukhnya", "Delo Printsipa", "Russkiy Vopros" (2012 to present).

Descended Cossack. Since August 1, 2012 - member of the Russian President's Cossack Council.

Awarded orders and medals of the Russian Federation, foreign countries, Russian and Serbian Orthodox Church, Badge of Honor of Russian State Duma “for Merit in Parliamentarism Development” (2008), Russian Federation Presidential Certificate of Honor (2013), Citizen of Honor of the Republic of Abkhazia (since 2008).

Member of Honor in the Russian Community of Crimea (since 2006). April, 2014 - awarded the Medal of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation "for Return of Crimea" as advised by commander of the Black Sea Fleet. Counselor of the Head of the Republic of Crimea (pro bono) since 2014.

July 21, 2014 - awarded the Order of Honor for services to insure safety of the Russian Federation, to improve piece, friendship, cooperation and understanding between nations by the Order of the President of the Russian Federation as the director of the Institute of CIS Countries.

Institute of CIS Counties (Institute of Diaspora and Integration) was founded in April 11, 1996 as an autonomous non-profit organization. The institute is the first research establishment fully intended for study of modern international issues and condition of our nationals abroad. The institute consists of the following departments: Ukraine; Central Asia and Kazakhstan; Belarus; Caucasus; Moldova and Transnistria; diaspora and migration; economical studies; comparative study of CIS countries legislation; relations with Russian Orthodox Church and orthodox community abroad; islamic studies. The institute has branches and affiliates in Kiev, Simferopol, Sevastopol, Yerevan, Tiraspol; offices in Bishkek, Minsk, Sukhumi.

Graduated from Saint-Petersburg Theology and Philosophy Institute.

Since 2000 - CEO of Economic Strategy Institute, Social Sciences Department, RAS (founded in 1990 with his involvement); president of the International Future Study Academy. At the same time - head of Business Project Management Department at MEPhI, editor-in-chief "Ekonomicheskiye Strategii" and "Partnership of Civilizations".

Specialist in the field of economic growth, world economy, integration processes, defense and power industry management, entrepreneurship, information systems, international standards related to investments, risk management, integrated reports, etc.

Author of more than 500 publications of which 28 are monographs. Over 30 publications are published in the USA, Germany, Portugal, Finland, Italy, China and other countries in English, German, Chinese and other languages.

1987-1991 - worked at the Economy Institute of the USSR AS. During the last five years A. I. Ageev coordinated successful research works for over 80 grants and contests.

Head of Business Project Management Department at the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI and Professor of the Public Administration Faculty at the Lomonosov MSU.

Born on June 5th, 1956 in Moscow. Grandchild of V.M. Molotov. In 1973, entered Historical Faculty of the Lomonosov’s Moscow State University. Specialized in modern and contemporary history. After graduation in 1978, worked at Modern And Contemporary History Department, was a Secretary of the All-Union Leninist Young Communist League Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Historical Faculty. In 1989, became the youngest Doctor of Historical Sciences in USSR. In the same year, was appointed as a trainer to Central Committee of the Communist Party of the USSR, and then Head of a sector of the Ideological Department.

Since 1991 – Assistant to the Head of USSR President Executive Office. Since August of 1991 – Assistant to USSR KGB Chairman.

Since 1992 – advisor of the Department of Political and International Problems of the International Fund of Economic and Social Reforms (Fund “Reforma”), was a lecturer at the California Technological Institute (USA).

In April of 1993, jointly with a group of political consultants (G. Satarov, A. Mogranyan, A. Salmin) organized and headed the Fund “Politics” (“Politica”). In May of 1993 was an initiator for establishing Club-93.

In 1993, was elected to the State Duma of the Russian Federation according to the federal list of the Party of Russian Solidarity and Concord (PRES). Held a post of Chairman of Subcommittee on International Security and Arms Control of the International Affairs Committee of the Russia State Duma. Since 1969 held various diplomatic positions in the central office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and abroad. Since 1983 until 1991 – Deputy Director of International Legal Department of the USSR MIA. Since 1991 till 1996 – Deputy Permanent Speaker of USSR, Russian Federation in UNO in New-York. Since 1996 until 1999 – Director of the Department of International Organizations, member of MIA Collegium.

1999-2002 – Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia.

2002-2011 – Deputy General Secretary of UNO, General Director of UNO Department in Geneva, General Secretary of the Conference of Disarmament.

Often participated in sessions of the General Assembly and other UNO bodies, headed delegations in various international forums.

Has a number of papers on international law issues, international relations and disarmament issues. Has a diplomatic rank of Extraordinary And Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Russian Federation.

Honored with a number of state awards, including foreign ones.

Russian public council on international cooperation and public diplomacy at the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation, established in 2012 for consolidation of forces of non-commercial organizations and other institutes of civil society on assistance for realization of foreign policy initiatives of Russia, realization of joint international projects and activities, development of recommendations to the state authorities on pressing issues of the Russia foreign policy. The Council meetings are held on a regular basis where most pressing subjects of the Russia foreign policy are discussed.

In 1972 graduated from MGIMO, Faculty of International Relations.

Since 1972 – postgraduate student in MGIMO in the History and Culture of Asia and Africa Countries Department.

In 1974 appointed as a MGIMO principal assistant.

In 1977 defended a dissertation for a candidate of historical sciences.

In 1977-1983 – held a position of senior lecturer, assistant professor of the Department of History and Culture of Asia and Africa Countries, dean for work with foreign students, deputy principal on international relations.

In 1979 A.V. Torkunov was awarded an academic status of assistant professor.

In 1983-1986 was on a diplomatic job – the second, the first Secretary of the USSR Embassy in Washington.

In 1986 was elected to be a dean of the MGIMO Faculty of International Relations.

In 1989 appointed as the First Assistant Principal of MGIMO.

In 1991 awards an academic status of Professor.

In 1992, at the general meeting of the Institute staff, Torkunov was elected as a MGIMO Principal. Was reelected for this position in 1997, 2002, 2007 and 2012.
