Young leaders of the SCO member states visited the Headquarters of the Organization 02.09.2016 11:21

August 29, 2016 Headquarters of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Beijing was visited by a delegation of the "SCO Youth camp", which included 150 young activists from the Member States of the Organization and the SCO observer states.

The Deputy Secretary General of the SCO, Ambassador Wang Kaiwen met with the delegation, who appreciated the importance of the "SCO Youth camp" in the year of the 15th anniversary of the creation of the Organization. During the conversation, he told the young leaders about the main goals and objectives of the Organization, as well as informed about the outcome of the jubilee SCO Summit held in June 2016 in Tashkent.

During the visit, the young leaders familiarized with the complex of buildings of the SCO Secretariat, visited the National Hall of SCO member states, went for a walk in the winter garden, explored "SCO Lawn ", and made a commemorative photo in the marble hall of the SCO Charter. Between officials of the SCO Secretariat and the young leaders of "SCO Youth camps" exchanged views on a wide range of issues related to the SCO activity, in particular in the field of youth exchanges, education, tourism and others.

The visit of young leaders at the headquarters of the SCO was held in the framework of Open Days, which are held on a regular basis in the SCO Secretariat. Their purpose is to acquaint representatives of civil society, including the younger generation, with the SCO activity, the practical work of the chief administrative body - the Secretariat. As stressed by Ambassador Wang Kaiwen, "SCO demonstrates to the whole world an example of friendship and cooperation among peoples belonging to different cultural and civilizational traditions on the basis of equality and the ability to listen, to hear and to listen to each other".

 The initiative of the "SCO Youth camp" in China for five years (since 2016) with the participation of the SCO countries, leaders of youth associations was announced by President Xi Jinping in July 2015 at the Ufa the SCO summit. In order to implement this initiative at the invitation of the All-China Youth Federation, young people from Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Belarus, India, Pakistan, Iran, Afghanistan and Mongolia (total 150 people) from 22 to 30 August 2016 are in China and have already been in Xinjiang and Beijing.

The theme of the first "SCO Youth Camp" is "Cooperation of the SCO a new future." The event is held in order to familiarize young leaders of the SCO countries, with China and their active participation in the implementation of "One Belt One Road" initiative.
