Within the framework of the program of work of the Eastern Economic Forum, SCO Secretary-General Rashid Alimov spoke during the panel session "Digital Transport - the Future of Greater Eurasia".

In his speech, the SCO Secretary-General noted: "The effective functioning of the transport system directly affects not only the development of international trade and economic cooperation in the SCO space, but also provides a lively connection between peoples, involves millions of people in the process of active and creative activity, world civilization, causes positive changes in international relations".
He added: "Further expansion of transport interaction is called upon to influence the prospects of development and expansion of the entire complex of trade and economic cooperation throughout the Eurasian area, attracting investments in interconnected infrastructure projects."
Alimov recalled that "the interaction in the field of road transport, which develops on the basis of the Agreement of the SCO member states on the creation of favorable conditions for international road transport, serves as the locomotive for the development of multilateral transport cooperation between the SCO countries."
According to expert estimates of UNESCAP, the Agreement opens more than 15,000 kilometers of high-speed roads for unimpeded movement of traffic and transportation. The longest artery exceeds 9,000 kilometers and in general the routes of the Agreement open new landlocked countries to new opportunities in the field of trade, economic and transport-infrastructure cooperation, and promote the development of regional interconnectedness.
The SCO Secretary-General emphasized that more than 244 thousand kilometers of railways have been laid and are operating on the territory of the member states. "Already today, active work has begun to build cooperation in the field of railway transport. The first meeting of the heads of the railway administrations of the SCO member states will be held in Tashkent on September 19, and as a next stage of the further intensification of transport cooperation within the SCO, the issue of the formation and functioning of the "Integrated Transport Management System" is being considered at the expert level, the SCO Secretary-General said.
"Its goal is the creation of a set of technologically coupled transport communications equipped for the movement of vehicles, the movement of goods and passengers, information and tariff systems, structures and mechanisms for managing various modes of transport, functioning on the basis of the national legislation of the SCO member states with its subsequent harmonization ", Alimov noted.

The SCO is a traditional participant in the Eastern Economic Forum. Within the framework of participation in WEF-2018, it is planned to discuss the key topics of economic, trade, investment and humanitarian cooperation in the space of Eurasia and Asia-Pacific.
