The Public Chamber held a respectable round table on topical problems of the SCO expansion« Back
At the initiative of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation and the Institute of CIS Countries 19 - 20 of April the International Forum "On the second track. The role of civil society and public diplomacy in the further development and expansion of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization" was held in Sochi in which 327 participants from 26 countries participated.
The detailed results of the Forum and other issues of Eurasian integration working group of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation on the Eurasian integration and support of SCO was discussed on June 24 at the round table "Actual problems of expansion of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization." The need for a public debate was due to the presence of challenges and threats in the "Big Eurasia", which formation proclaimed the Russian President Vladimir Putin at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. The round table was held during the SCO summit in Tashkent.
The moderator of the event was the head of the working group of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation in the Eurasian integration and support of the SCO, the director of the CIS Institute Konstantin Zatulin.
He noted in his speech that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in its activity is gaining momentum, which was manifested in the course of its expansion. Zatulin also called for strengthening the role of civil society and public diplomacy in the development of the SCO. The International Forum in Sochi could become the best space for it.
Konstantin Zatulin: "Public Chamber of the Russian Federation is designed in accordance with the division of responsibilities and powers to try to unite the efforts of civil society, to target a certain way the work of the nonprofit sector. Of course, all this cannot be reduced to scientific research, and also cannot be reduced to the narrow screen forums. We are talking about the inclusion of social forces in the Eurasian integration".
The hearing was attended by Advisor to the Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation Alevtina Kirillova; First Deputy Director of the Institute of Far Eastern Studies Sergei Uyanaev; First Deputy Chairman of the Commission on the development of social infrastructure and housing and communal services of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation Artem Kiryanov; Director of the ASEAN Centre at MGIMO (University) of the RF Ministry of Foreign Affairs Victor Sumy; Deputy Chairman of the Association of Russian diplomats, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the lanes full of Yang; Deputy Director of the Institute of CIS Vladimir Evseev; members of the Public board of the Russian Federation, well-known political scientists and leading researchers.
Among the topics of the round table were presented:
- The idea of "Big Eurasia" and the prospects for expansion of the Shanghai Organization
- The first results of the SCO summit in Tashkent;

During the meeting there was a presentation of the Collection of reports presented at the Sochi International Forum: "Actual problems of expansion of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization".
