The objective of the CSTO is to guarantee the military security of the participating countries« Back
The CSTO member countries jointly protect their security, while inside the country’s structure they don’t have to worry about infringement of anyone’s interests. This opinion was expressed in an interview with Infoshos by the director of the Institute of Regional Problems Dmitry Zhuravlev.
On November 28, a summit of the Heads of Countries of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) took place in Bishkek under the chairmanship of the President of Kyrgyzstan.
Commenting on the summit, Zhuravlev noted that from a political point of view, the CSTO is a very significant and necessary organization.
“The task of the CSTO is to guarantee the military security of the participating countries, and they cope with this task, of course, in many respects, thanks to Russia,” the expert said.
Zhuravlev also emphasized the strength of the CSTO: “The CSTO is strong in that it maintains balance and allows you to defend together without fear of each other. That is, together we protect our security, and at the same time, inside the structure, we are not afraid that these joint efforts will lead to the infringement of someone’s sovereignty”.
Speaking about the expansion of the Organization, the expert noted that in this case, the question of standardization will arise, since there is a discrepancy in military standards.
“If countries need the support of the CSTO, they will be ready to provide it. This will strengthen the role of Russia, as well as the role of the CSTO and the security of the countries themselves”, he said.
