Strengthening the interaction of the SCO countries will be discussed at the SPIEF« Back
A record number of participants attended the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. It opened on May 24 in the northern capital and was held at the Expoforum congress and exhibition center. Expected 15,000 delegates, as well as about one and a half thousand Russian and foreign companies from 72 countries.
"Such interest to the Forum is that it takes place on the territory of the Russian Federation and allows understanding what Russia and Russian business is what peculiarity it has. What problems it solves what interests it has. Participation in such meetings gives an idea of the attitude of the country's leadership to business, "said Executive Secretary of the SCO Business Council Sergey Kanavsky in an interview with Infoshos portal.
According to the expert, this year the St. Petersburg Forum is more relevant for Western countries than ever. As guests of honor, French President Emmanuel Macron and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will arrive here. The peculiarity of the Forum is that its agenda is very wide and captures the European and Euro-Asian problems. Russia acts as a kind of bridge between Europe and Eurasia.
Within the framework of the SPIEF, a panel session was held dedicated to the prospects of promoting the SCO business agenda at a new stage of development. Its participants discussed possible points of contact between business and the state, including the role of the SCO Business Council in the activities of the SCO working groups. The issue of involving representatives of observer states in the SCO business program, as well as a joint business agenda was discussed.
"Russia has become one of the generators of initiatives within the SCO framework. In particular, the meeting of the head of the Republic of Bashkortostan Rustem Khamitov and the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Russia Sergey Katyrin was held at the Forum's fields. The parties discussed holding the Fourth Small Business Forum of the regions of the SCO member states and the BRICS in October this year in Ufa. The participation of federal ministers, the first persons of the regions of the SCO member states and the BRICS, international and Russian experts is expected. Within the framework of the Forum, more than 20 agreements and memorandums on mutually beneficial cooperation will be signed. I think the Ufa forum can become another milestone in the expansion of economic cooperation in the SCO space", Kanavsky said.
