A special joint high-level event on the theme of “SCO-UN: cooperation in the name of strengthening peace, security and stability, preventing the merging of terrorism with organized crime and its financing through drug trafficking” was held on November 19 at the UN Secretariat in New York.
Presentations were made by the UN Secretary General A. Guterrish, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia I. Morgulov, SCO Secretary General V. Norov and Director of the SCO Executive Committee RATS D. Giesov, as well as representatives of the SCO member states, observer states and SCO partners on dialogue.
Participants discussed issues in the areas of security, counter-terrorism, drug trafficking and transnational organized crime.
It was noted that the coalescence of these threats requires the development of additional universal measures to curb the channels for fueling terrorist activities at the expense of proceeds from the drug business, the illegal trade in arms and people, and other criminal activities.
The intensive development of interaction between the UN and the SCO in matters of maintaining peace, ensuring security and stability was noted.
Norov reaffirmed the SCO's readiness to continue to serve as a reliable framework for unified and indivisible Eurasian security architecture, effectively complementing global efforts to counter the personnel, ideological and logistical support of terrorism and it’s merging with transnational organized crime.
