SCO Headquarters Discuss SCO Trade and Economic Cooperation Prospects« Back
Under the chairmanship of Uzbekistan, the 32-nd meeting of the Commission of Senior Officials (CSO) of the ministries and departments of the SCO member states responsible for foreign economic and foreign trade activities was held in Beijing on August 15-16.
The participants discussed preparations for the next meeting of the ministers of the SCO member states, which are responsible for foreign economic and foreign trade activities. In addition, it was about the substantive part of the meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the SCO member states, scheduled for autumn 2019 in Uzbekistan.
Emphasis was placed on the implementation of the Program of Multilateral Trade and Economic Cooperation of the SCO Member States, enhancing the practical and analytical activities of the Member States in the economic sphere.
The work of special working groups in the industry areas of the SCO economic track was analyzed. The interlocutors also touched on possible ways to further stimulate cooperation in the trade and economic field.
According to the Special Representative of the President of Russia for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), Bahtiyor Khakimov, Bangladesh, Bahrain, Israel and Saudi Arabia submitted applications for joining the SCO.
Quoting Sputnik, Afghanistan is also a candidate for membership. However, this is not yet possible due to the unstable domestic political situation in the country.
Recall that the SCO, created in 2001, includes India, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Observers in its work are Afghanistan, Belarus, Iran and Mongolia.
