Moscow discussed cooperation of Russia with Central Asia« Back
In the press center of the International Information Agency "Russia Today", a video bridge between Moscow and Astana - Bishkek "Interaction of Russia with the countries of Central Asia" was held. The experts discussed the situation in the region, integration issues, and anti-terrorist security, told about the situation with the spread of radical sentiments, and suggested methods for solving some problems.
Over the years of fruitful cooperation, the states managed to establish a trusted political dialogue, including at the highest level, to form a solid legal basis. Russia has long become a partner of the states of the region in the military and military-technical fields, supports them in countering numerous challenges and threats to security, including terrorism, separatism, extremism, drug trafficking and organized crime. The geographical proximity was helped to bring closer the positions of the parties, as well as a common history. Today great importance is attached to building up humanitarian cooperation between Russia and the countries of Central Asia.
During the video bridge the deputy director of the Institute of CIS countries Vladimir Zharikhin asked the question: "What does Russia need from Central Asia? First, we are interested in security on the south-eastern flank, which we jointly provide with colleagues. As a component of this needs - social stability in these countries ... Finally, these are integration initiatives, which, I hope, will allow to eventually strengthening social stability in Central Asia. Moreover, without such a high-mass attraction of labor from these republics to Russia it is possible only by creating jobs in these countries, including through joint integration projects".
Such associations, according to the expert, help solve many problems, which positively affects Russia's relations with the countries of the region and is beneficial to both sides. In particular, anti-terrorist activities jointly with Russia on the far borders of the CIS allow the states of Central Asia to provide social stability in their own countries. This makes it possible to rely on our own economic forces, and not on remittances of migrants working abroad.
Vladimir Zharikhin outlined another important problem - water resources. "Earlier, the countries of the region had conflicts over water resources. I believe that these problems can be solved only by compromise, and now it is happening".
There is a certain realization that solving problems would be easier together, - says Elena Kuzmina, head of the sector of the Primakov National Research Institute of World Economy and International Relations. The expert believes that when assessing integration issues, one should take into account that they arise in the context of the so-called Greater Eurasia. Many countries in the region are thinking how not to get lost in the ongoing changes and integrate into the integration processes.
Deputy Director of the Institute of CIS countries Vladimir Evseev believes that "when considering the prospects of integration processes in Central Asia, it is necessary to take into account the current situation in the region, whose balance of power is changing." According to the expert, there are external risks coming from Afghanistan, in the border areas of which different armed groups are strengthening. In addition, one should take into account the factor of influence in the region of countries such as Iran and China, to think about how to effectively build cooperation with Beijing within the framework of the EAEU". Prospects for the development of integration processes within the union depend on confirmation of serious economic dividends for their participants," Evseev said.
During the years of independence, the countries of Central Asia have become full participants in international life and contribute to the maintenance of global stability. Russia's relations with the countries of the region are of a confidential nature, which helps to avoid negative trends and interstate contradictions. Preservation of its key role in Central Asia and the post-Soviet space remains one of the priorities of modern Russian politics. The solution of this problem is related to the development of cooperation in various fields, which is very important in the context of a complex regional and international situation.
